Ballarat Weekend Away - 22nd and 23rd of September

What a lovely weekend we had, the weather was perfect, the company was great and our car behaved beautifully. What more could we ask for?

We left Melbourne and headed to Ballarat on Friday so we would be ready for the early gathering on Saturday. John went with Merv Sherlock to the Ballarat Car Club meeting on Friday night while Maree and I curled up by the fire at Chez Sherlock and watched an entertaining DVD.

Saturday was sunny, warm and wonderful. Fifteen club members gathered at the Old Mill Market for an early morning browse amongst the antiques and collectables. Kaye Powell, Lotte Linden and Neil Hiho found some treasures that delighted them and we all enjoyed a Devonshire morning tea together.
We were then off on a scenic drive heading to Buninyong Gardens via the lookout on Mt Buninyong. 360º views and a pair of eagles soaring on the thermals rewarded the climb to the top of the lookout tower. Then down the mountain the parade of beautiful Humbers went until we reached our lunch destination - Buninyong Gardens.

After a relaxing lunch we all travelled to a very interesting place - Hodges Hot Rod and Motorbike restorations. Although hot rods are not my thing at all I couldn't help admiring the dedication, work and expense the enthusiasts were going to, to make their monsters. Lowered to mm above ground when stationary one of the vehicles looked like a rusted abandoned ute until it fired up ready to go. Another had a keyboard decorating the dashboard! The guys working there were only too happy to discuss their restorations and they did show some interest in our Humbers as well (may be checking out their hot rod potential!)

Our evening at the Miners Rest Tavern was made special by the presentation of a birthday cake to Maree Sherlock - her birthday was the next day - all the Tavern sang happy birthday to her and enjoyed a piece of the cake.

Sunday saw us all travelling to Daylesford Market and a browse around the items on sale - produce, plants, collectables - I picked up a book - 'The Intelligent Traveller" which I hope will give me some hints for my travels that I am embarking on next year. After lunch together in Daylesford we went homeward via the Creswick Woollen Mill and made some more essential purchases!

Many thanks must go to Les and Bev Lindorff and Richard and Kaye Powell for arranging such an interesting and enjoyable weekend for HCCV members. We had a great time and it was lovely to see the heads turn as the fleet of very special Humbers travelled around the countryside.
