Humber Car Club visit to the Ambulance Museum in 2011

On a beautiful sunny day a group of club members visited the Ambulance Museum at Thomastown. What an interesting place to visit, run completely by enthusiastic volunteers, including HCCV club member Ron Forth, with plenty of ambulance vehicles of all ages from the early 1900's to the present day and artefacts including circa 1930's humidicrib and 1880's mobile stretchers
We arrived at 10.30 am, were treated to morning tea then a brief talk by the curator about the museum. We then spent a very pleasant hour or so exploring the contents of the museum. John Washbourne was particularly interested in the very early Talbot ambulance as it was about the same age of the Talbot car he plans to restore very soon. Lengthy discussions were held over various aspects of the engine and the actual age of the ambulance. It was thought to be older than the 1916 date they had on it.
I was intrigued by the artefacts and photos displayed - especially the horse drawn ambulances and the ancient mobile stretchers. How uncomfortable they would have been, but I guess in an emergency you would have been grateful for anything.

After the museum we made our way to Bundoora Park for lunch. It was such a pleasant day we ate an alfresco meal then went for a stroll around the park. Anne Anderson and I had fun in the children's maze with the weird mirrors but resisted a temptation to try the swings or slides! However, it is a great place to take your young children or grandchildren for an afternoon of fun play.

Anyway, we all had a great day and we were glad we made the effort to go on this club outing today.
